As if I need something else added to my to-do list, I've decided to blog. Busy or not, writing has always been an outlet, and there have been many times when I have wanted to recount the events of a unique wedding morning, been inspired with practical advice for my clients, and felt the need to proclaim my adoration for various beauty products. This year, I will stop thinking about it and just do it (13 years after I started my business, but oh well).
So, my name is Laura Afshari, and I am a bit of a Renaissance woman. I have been a full time high school English and history teacher for over 20 years (I started when I was 21), but I have been brows deep in the beauty industry for even longer. As a pageant kid, advertising model, national spokesperson, QVC host, stage and film actress, dancer, and singer, my love for styling hair and applying makeup began early. I was the child who got dragged to the bathroom in Catholic school every morning for my daily scrubbing. Whether or not Sister Susanne was jealous of my wicked blue eyeliner was not the point; however, my desire to express myself through my hair and makeup choices was.
And it still is! Being trained in airbrush makeup in the early 2000's right when it was fresh on the east coast gave me a leg up on knowing how to create flawless long-lasting looks suitable for HD cameras and real life. At the time, I had taken some time off from teaching to guest host on QVC and audition, act, model, perform, dance, etc., and I positively got the bug to work from the opposite side of the camera. Then, on the advice of a lovely and now deceased tv personality, I became a MAC-Pro airbrush makeup artist in 2005 and trained with some of the best hair-styling pros in the business. Originally working as a key makeup artist on various television and film crews and as a stylist/mua for photo shoots and advertising work, I quickly found my niche within the bridal industry.
After doing a friend's wedding hair and makeup in 2006 as a favor, I was immediately hooked and shifted all of my study and focus onto bridal hair and makeup. There is magic in the air on every wedding day, and the joyous atmosphere surrounding brides and their friends/family is unbeatable. I strive to bring my own magic to every wedding morning for which I'm lucky enough to be hired, and it is my singular goal to continue having a 100% satisfaction rating among my past, present, and future clients. The importance of my role on a bride's day is never lost on me, and I feel incredibly blessed each time I am hired.
